Many were excited today to hear that Speaker John Boehner will be resigning soon, then only disappointed to hear that the favorite to replace him is liberal Republican Kevin McCarthy of
California. The coalition that gave Republicans the majority in Congress in 2010 and 2014, the TEA Party movement and the conservative base of the GOP, should stand up and demand the election of a new Speaker of the House who actually represents us, and not the inside-the-beltway special interests groups, the corrupt corporate interests of the pro-amnesty Chamber of Crony Capitalism, and the rest of the moderate to liberal coalition that has turned the GOP into the party of Democrat Lite.
Newt Gingrich was first elected to the leadership in the House in 1989 because he was the only candidate who challenged the leadership's candidate for the Whip position after Dick Cheney resigned from the job to become Secretary of Defense for President George H.W. Bush. Gingrich got elected by building a coalition of members from various factions who had different reasons among them to be unhappy with the leadership at the time under Republican Minority Leader Robert Michel. Gingrich won and later united a majority under his leadership as the new Republican Speaker of the House after the 1994 elections.
Conservatives in the current Republican Caucus need to united behind one challenger to the establishment's likely candidate, Kevin McCarthy. Dividing the vote among two or more candidates running against the establishment's pick only insures the election of McCarthy as the next speaker.
Next, all the major grass-roots conservative groups, such as Tea Party Patriots, FreedomWorks, and many others should unite together as a coalition to support this candidate, and make it clear also that ANY member of Congress that votes for McCarthy as the new speaker will be opposed for renomination to their seat in Congress in 2016 if they are challenged by a more conservative candidate. We the people elected a Republican majority of the Congress and we need to make it clear we expect them to elect a speaker that represents us, and a mainstream conservative agenda, rather than the Democrat Lite and surrender agenda of John Boehner. Any member who votes for the latter by voting for McCarthy as speaker should be challenged and, we would hope, defeated in their district in the next primary.
The conservative coalition should also start a national grassroots campaign to urge citizens across the country to contact their members of Congress and urge them to not vote for McCarthy and to vote for the conservative challenger. If enough people stand up and communicate this message, the politicians will follow and our candidate for Speaker will be elected instead of Kevin McCarthy.
This plan needs to happen. Let's Roll, as Frank Beamer said on United 91 on September 11, 2001. Let's tell the politicians it's time to take our country back. Elect a Speaker from the Republican Wing of the GOP, not the Democrat Lite faction. Let's Roll.
